Cultivating Student Engagement and Building a Growth Mindset (1.5 hour)

This workshop will focus on exploring equitable teaching practices to build growth mindset and increase the potential for engaging students in meaningful mathematical experiences. Deep understanding happens when students share their thinking and reasoning, not just the answer and the steps they took. Learn cooperative learning structures and routines that leverage deliberate discourse moves to ensure all students are talking together to make sense of important mathematics.

Empowering Your Students through Productive Mathematical Discourse (1 hour)

In this workshop, we will explore strategies and resources for implementing math talks to meet the needs of K-12 math classrooms. See how math talks can provide opportunities for students to communicate and justify mathematical ideas, reasoning, and arguments within a concise, organized classroom structure. We will also explore how we use the concepts in 5 Practices for Orchestrating Productive Math Discussions with teachers and students.
